Type 22 radiator distance from wall

How Far Do Type 22 Radiators Stick Out?

Many compact Type 22 radiators have a body depth of around 102–105mm. That is the depth of the radiator itself, from the front face to the back of the radiator body.

The full distance from the wall to the front of the radiator is usually more than the listed depth, because the radiator is fitted on wall brackets and needs a small gap behind it. So, if a Type 22 radiator is listed as 102mm or 105mm deep, use that as the body depth rather than the final wall projection.

Listed depth The radiator body depth shown on the product page.
Bracket gap The space between the wall and the back of the radiator.
Wall projection The full distance from the wall to the front face once fitted.

Tails says: A 102mm or 105mm Type 22 depth usually means the radiator body itself. The fitted wall-to-front distance can be higher because of the brackets behind it.

Type 22 Radiator Distance From Wall

The main thing to know is that radiator depth and wall projection are not always the same thing. A product page may show a Type 22 radiator depth of 102mm or 105mm, but that figure describes the radiator body only.

Once the radiator is fitted, the brackets hold it slightly away from the wall. That rear gap adds to the final wall-to-front projection, so the radiator can stick out further than the listed body depth.

Plus bracket gap The radiator is held off the wall, so the fitted projection can be higher.
Best for planning Use the listed depth as the starting point, not the full fitted distance.

Why a Type 22 Radiator Can Stick Out Further Than Its Listed Depth

A Type 22 radiator is usually deeper than a slim single-panel radiator because it has a double-panel body. The listed depth tells you how deep that body is, but the radiator does not sit completely flat against the wall.

The brackets create space behind the radiator. That space is important for fitting and airflow, but it also means the front face of the radiator usually sits further out than the body depth shown on the product page.

So, How Much Space Should You Allow?

For many standard compact Type 22 radiators, expect the radiator body itself to be around 102–105mm deep. The fitted wall-to-front distance can be more because of the bracket gap behind the radiator. This is the number that matters most if the radiator will sit near a doorway, walkway, cupboard, sofa, bed or curtain.

Check the listed depth on each Type 22 radiator, then remember that the fitted wall projection can be slightly higher once brackets are included.

How far do Type 22 radiators stick out?

Many compact Type 22 radiators have a body depth of around 102–105mm. The full fitted distance from the wall can be more because brackets hold the radiator slightly away from the wall.

Is the listed Type 22 depth the same as the wall distance?

Not always. The listed depth usually describes the radiator body. The wall-to-front projection can be higher after the wall brackets and rear gap are included.

Are 102mm and 105mm Type 22 radiators slim?

For compact Type 22 radiators, 102mm and 105mm are typical body-depth figures. They are not ultra-slim, but they are normal for a double-panel Type 22 radiator.

Why does Type 22 wall projection matter?

It matters in tighter areas such as hallways, behind doors, beside furniture, under windowsills or near curtains. The radiator body may be 102–105mm deep, but the fitted projection can be higher.
